Portals to the World

An awesome resource from the Library of Congress. Information is broken down into broad categories, such as general resources, culture, government, education, and economics. Use this site for information about all countries of the world.

 

"Countries & Flags"

A large selection of country resources from the Multnomah County library's Homework Center. Offers general websites, as well as country-specific sites.

 

World Factbook

Features information on countries around the world from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Covers geography, people, government, economy, transportation, military, and more. Includes maps.

 

Country Briefings

The Economist Newspaper Ltd. presents country profiles and recent articles. A fact sheet for each country is included, as well as political and economic information on forces, structure, and trends.

 

Visit Europe

The European Travel Commission highlights travel to European countries, providing information about the area, population, languages, tourist attractions, cities and towns, festivals, sports, and cuisine.

 

Country Studies

This series deals with a variety of countries, describing and analyzing each country’s "political, economic, and social systems and institutions, and examining the interrelationships of those systems and the ways they are shaped by cultural factors. Includes a bibliography and glossary."

 

World InfoZone

Offers information about countries around the world as well as links to international news sites. Check out the "World" section which is organized thematically (the world economy, art, the relationship between geography, history, religion, world resources and the environment). The site "enables people to understand cultural differences and recognize similarities between different groups of people."
