For a list of suggested titles, visit the high school Summer Reading webpage. You are not limited to these titles. Feel free to choose an appropriate book on your own that will go along with this assignment. You may choose to read about either famous people or ordinary citizens who have faced extraordinary challenges, had unbelievable experiences, or lived fascinating lives. Need help choosing? Check out the Quick Links above right.
1. As you read each work, keep a journal on notebook paper in which your write about:
~ Your thoughts and reactions to the book
~ How family, community, or historical events affected the person's life
~ The changes or growth the person experiences
~ Details and specific occurrences that help to reveal those changes
Your journal for each book should include at least 5 entries with a minimum of 50 words per entry.
2. Be prepared to write an essay about this assignment on the first day of school. Your journal entries will serve as notes for this essay, which will be written in class.
